Week 24 ~ Feb. 26 - Mar. 2, 2018

We will celebrate Read Across America week at CAES this week!  A schedule of this week’s special Dr. Seuss events was sent home in the red folder on Friday.  You can also refer to the schedule below.  It is also the 100th day of school on Wednesday.  Your child may dress as a 100 year old, if he/she’d like!  Keep sending in your Box Tops!  We can use them!

This week we will:
  • Begin learning about desert ecosystems - desert animals and their adaptations, desert plants and desert food webs
  • read lots of Dr. Seuss books
  • compare fiction and nonfiction stories
  • identify characters in stories that we read aloud 
  • identify the setting and events in stories that we read aloud
  • use letters, sounds and Power Words to write about desert ecosystems
  • review telling time to the hour on a standard analog clock and a digital clock
  • identify the attributes of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter
  • learn how much each coin is worth
  • identify how many pennies is equal to a nickel, dime and quarter

Homework for the week:
  • ask your child what the “E” and “T” stand for in G.R.E.A.T. – (Empathy and Trustworthy) Ask him/her what those 2 big words mean
  • read for 30 minutes each night – log in 2 of the books that you read
  • Practice reading Power Words at Flash Speed

·       February 28 – Hat day (The Cat in the Hat) and the 100th Day of School
·       March 1 – Dress like a teacher (Hooray for Diffendoofer Day)
·       March 2 – Wear green (Green Eggs and Ham)
·       March 6 – Book Fair begins
·       March 7 – Parent Teacher conference day – No school for students
·       March 9 – Grand Lunch (our lunchtime is 12:25 – 12:55)
